Cancer Risk Factors

4 Possible Cancer Risk Factors
By Thomas Parker

Cancer Risk Factors Although we know how cancer develops we do not know what triggers the cancerous growth. However, there are certain risk factors associated with it.

1) AGE:- As discussed above, cancer develops when the process of cell division malfunctions. Furthermore, the older we get the more times our body's cells release DNA damaging by products that can disrupt the process of cell division. Therefore, age acts as a cancer risk factor.

2) EXPOSURE TO CARCINOGENS:- Carcinogens are substances that are directly involved in the promotion of cancer.

3) POOR DIET:- Research suggests that certain foods can protect you against cancer.

4) SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE:- Research has shown that there is a strong link between exercise and cancer risk. In a study of 40,000 men by Cancer Research UK those who walked or cycled for an hour a day were 16% less likely to get cancer. Therefore, people who lead an inactive, sedentary lifestyle have a greater chance of getting cancer.

Although no one is sure exactly what causes cancer to develop, research has identified the above as definite risk factors. Whilst aging cannot be controlled if you stay away from carcinogens, eat the right foods and exercise regularly you can significantly reduce your chances of contracting cancer.

Stomach Cancer Symptoms

Stomach Cancer Symptoms - What to Look For and How it is Diagnosed
By Melissa McKyler

Stomach Cancer Symptoms Most symptoms actually bear strong resemblance to those of a hiatal hernia or peptic ulcer. This can start out with stomach pains that are only aggravated by food, along with heartburn, indigestion, and nausea. A loss of appetite or feeling full even after a small meal can also be placed under stomach cancer symptoms. Along with this can come upper abdominal pains, weight loss, and the actual bloating of the stomach after meals. In more extreme cases, vomiting blood or blood being found in the feces can also occur. This isn't usually the rich red colored fresh blood, but dark blood.

Although some of these symptoms can also be symptoms of a stomach virus or gastric ulcer, if you have even the slightest feeling that it could be cancerous, then go to your doctor. The risk of acquiring these stomach cancer symptoms becomes significantly higher when things like age begin to factor in. A diet that primarily consists of salty food prepared by smoking or curing is also something to take note off.

Acai Berry

The Truth About Acai Berries and Cancer Research
By Dana Hawkes

OAcai Berryne of the boldest claims by the manufacturers of Acai berry supplements is the claim that they are able to help 'cure cancer'. What is interesting is the research by the Universities of Florida and Texas show that whilst the claim that Acai berries can cure cancer may not be able to be upheld - there is a huge amount of correlation between Acai berries and the destruction of cancerous cells - causing further research into whether Acai berries can help limit the growth of cancer.

The research

In 4 out of the 6 tests the cells were destroyed to certain degrees - ranging from 35% to 86% destruction rate depending on the level of concentration the Acai berry extract was at. Research is still ongoing, and no scientist is claiming that the Acai berry is a cure for cancer.

Cancer Killing Machine

Cancer Killing Machine
By Ronald English

Cancer Killing Machine John Kanzius was an unlikely inventor of a device that kills cancer cells using radio waves. Unlikely? Growing up he built a ham radio from scratch. He learned about radio waves.

John was at M. D. Anderson Research Center undergoing treatment for his cancer. Radio waves can cure cancer? It worked big.

Back in Houston at the Cancer Center he met Dr. Steven Curley, the lead cancer researcher. This man did outstanding work and research on nanotechnology and nanoparticles. Dr. Smalley provided the nanoparticles that Dr. Curley used to prove the Kanzius machine would actually kill cancer cells. The particles were inserted inside a cancer cell of a rabbit and the radio waves used to heat them.

Research is taking place in two universities. The M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston which is part of the University of Texas headed up by Dr. Curley.

Harry Smith, CBS's Early Show and Lesley Stahl of CBS's 60 Minutes each did a segment on John and his cancer killing machine invention. These TV programs set the nation buzzing about this new idea to attack cancer.

I suggest any who are interested go to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation site and see how this man's dream developed. Sadly, John died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. The early test made on rabbits, rats and other lab tests have been successful. We should all pray for Drs. Curley and Geller. This article salutes the memory of John Kanzius and Dr. Richard Smalley. Perhaps human testing next year.

Cancer Symptom

Throat Cancer Symptoms - What to Look For & How it is Diagnosed
By Melissa McKyler

Cancer SymptomWhen looking for throat cancer symptoms, one of the things that you have to be mindful of is hoarseness or a sore throat that doesn't heal in two weeks. Along with this may come neck pains as well as swelling in the region of the neck. Abnormal, high pitched breathing sounds may eventually become a problem.

What few people may know is that throat cancer can actually either be head and neck cancer or esophageal cancer. Head and neck cancer can from the upper aerodigestive tract, like the lips, oral cavity, nasal cavity, pharynx and larynx. Esophageal cancer, on the other hand, derives its name from its singular location, the esophagus.

When diagnosing throat cancer symptoms, your doctor may ask for a series of tests in order to be certain. A cranial CT scan and/or a cranial MRI are next in line. Sometimes, a biopsy may be done in order to diagnose throat cancer symptoms.

Cancer Treatment

Cancer Treatment - The Different Types
By Mercy Maranga

Cancer TreatmentCancer treatment can be done through several ways. The most common ways of treating cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy and monoclonal antibody therapy. Mastectomy is a surgical procedure for breast cancer while prostatectomy is a surgical procedure for prostate cancer. Surgery may not be an effective treatment method in cases where the cancer may have metastasized.

Chemotherapy is another cancer treatment method. It involves the use of drugs that destroy cancer cells by interfering with the cell division. Chemotherapy targets rapidly dividing cells and is not specific to cancer cells. Radiation therapy or x-ray therapy involves the use of ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation therapy destroys the target tissue by damaging their genetic makeup and thus deterring them from growing and dividing.
